1966 Ford GT40

1966 Ford GT40

The 1966 Le Mans-winning Ford GT40, chassis number P1046 is now backward in its Le Mans livery and up for sale this fall at Londons Hampton Cozy up to Concours of Elegance.

Single-minded by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon at Le Mans in 1966, P1046 was something of an accidental winner (pictured when the race-leading GT40 automobile of Ken Miles and Denny Hulme was asked to slow down to allow the second- and third-placed bunch cars of McLaren Amon and Ronnie BucknumDick Hutcherson to line up for a photo finish. Fords intent was to have completely three cars cross the line simultaneously, telling that a automobile, not a picky driver, had won the dash. However McLarens automobile was ruled to have traveled eight meters farther in the equivalent age, so it was awarded the victory.
